THƯ THÍNH GIẢ KHI NGHE AUDIO BOƠK QUA CƠN BÃO DỰ(THE BOOK STORMY ESCAPE IN ENGLISH)

Ngày 27/7/2013

Cô Kim Hà kính mến,

Em tên Chúc, xin cô cho em viết bằng tiếng Anh đễ dễ viết.

I am sorry that I wrote in hurry since I was at work.

First, I would like to thank you so much for writing this invaluable diary. I imagined that it was very difficult for you to recall your journey and write it down. I don't remember how many times I have cried when I listened to your audio book while I was driving to work.  It has brought back to me a lots of memory in Cambodia and while we were escaping.

I was born in Saigon (1960) and grew up in Ba\n Co+\ of 3rd District.  I went to Petrus Truong Vinh Ky high school since "Dde^. Lu.c". The school name was changed to Le Hong Phong after 1975.  My world was collapsed on that day.  I was then called up to Nghia Vu Quan Su right after high school and had to server as Thanh Nien Xung Phong.  Together with many friends from PetrusKy, I was put to U-Minh jungle and secretly transferred to Cambodia to support the war machine.  Since we were unarmed Thanh Nien Xung Phong and had to server as labors of war, we were killed a lots in Cambodia. There were many times that we tried to escape at Kompong Som and along Thai Mien border but we were not be able to success.  Finally, we were able to escape by boat from Vung Tau to Malaysia in February 1982.  We immigrated to Canada and decided to take a job relocation in USA in 1987.  We finally settled down in Dallas, TX.

Today, we have 3 children: Kim Anh (18 years old) and twin son Dat and Dang (17 years old). I attached some of our family photos in this email.

Kim just graduated from High School and appointed to US Naval Academy this year.  Kim had turned down all pre-med scholarships from Universities in Texas and decided to go to USNA. Kim said to the Congress and Navy Officer who interviewed her that she wanted to pay back to the US who was kind to Vietnamese immigrants and especially South Vietnamese armed forces. Regardless of the politics, the American always reach out to support the Vietnamese in US. She wants to server the country to honor the American Veterans and South Vietnamese Armed Forced that sacrificed during the VN war and many Vietnamese lost their lives during the journey to search for freedom.  Kim is currently going through the basic navy training called Plebe Summer at USNA in Annapolis.  Dat and Dang will be in Senior next year and will follow their sister foot steps to USNA. They are taking summer courses at college and working part time to raise money for the foundation of Heroes of South Vietnamese in Dallas. The foundation is building the monument "Thương Tiếc" which had been built at Nghia Trang Quan Doi Bien Hoa.

Ever since they were young, my wife Trinh and I have told them a lots about the history of our country, war and how Vietnamese has been suffered during and after the wars.  We taught them how to read and write in VN. They are good in speaking and writing but will be very tired in reading long story. They had came back to VN with us for the first time in 2005 to donate and work as charity in several leprosy camps (Nha Trang and Da Nang).  It was a trip that my wife and I put together to educate them so they can see the country and understand what was going on. We did not have time to take them to Cambodia to show them what we had been through although they requested us so many times.  Since coming back from Vietnam, they had set stone in their lives to build their career in order to server the country and the poor.  They have been doing a lots of good thing for the poor in VN since our Aunt is still a nun at Do\ng Dda Minh Ho Nai Bien Hoa.

They requested me many times to write what we had been through during the wars and escaping from the VN.  I promised but I never have time and is brave enough to do it.  When I started writing, I cried then stopped. Today, I found your diary that I think I can share it with Kim Dat and Dang for now.  I would like to buy 4 copies of Stormy Escape with your biography. One is for Kim, one is for Dat and Dang, one is for the Ex Navy Officer who had interviewed Kim for Navy, and the 4th one is for Congress Sam Johnson.  Both Congress Johnson and Ex Navy Officer used to server in Vietnam during the war. Congress Johnson was shot down in Hanoi and captured in Hoa Lo.  Ex Navy Officer was high ranking US Marines and served two tours in Vietnam. He was wounded several times in Da Nang.  Both had asked me a lots about our escapes and we never be able to finish our conversation since they were so busy in public.  Your diary will help many Vietnamese American generation to come and many American understand our lost and suffer.

Would you please let me know how much totally including shipping to zip code 75094 (Plano, TX)?  Do you have the 2nd Edition yet? Is the 2nd edition better?  If I can save the money, it would be great since we still want to help out the Foundation to build the Thuong Tiec in Dallas Forth Worth next year. If not, it is fine.  Your kindness to let us buy 4 copies is always appreciated.

Many thanks and regards,
